"La Repubblica": Warsaw is the best place for Erasmus students

Warsaw is among the top European cities that are the best places to live and study in the Erasmus program - the results of a poll among students were presented on Thursday by the Italian daily La Repubblica. The newspaper noted that many Italians highly rate studies in Poland. The ranking of the best Erasmus academic centres has been prepared by the international student portal Uniplaces, which helps students find a lodging during their studies.

Factors taken into account include the cost of renting a room or apartment, university fees, average meal prices in cheap restaurants, the cost of a monthly public transportation ticket, and the number of state universities in the city.

In the ranking of 15 European cities prepared on that basis, Warsaw is the most attractive - the Italian newspaper reports, presenting the ranking results. The cost of rent is among the lowest in Europe, there are no university fees, both transport and food are cheap. The most expensive city is London, followed by Paris and Milan.

According to the Roman daily, many Italians on Erasmus choose Warsaw. La Repubblica quotes a lecturer of Italian language history at the Sicilian University of Messina, Fabio Rossi: "The agreement with the university in the Polish capital is one of the most fruitful our university has made abroad".

The authors of the article "Erasmus, Warsaw is the best" noted that foreign students do not need to know Polish, because most universities have programs of lectures and classes in English, French and German. "Students return very satisfied, and the exams they take after their return show that their preparation is more than satisfactory" - says Rossi.

According to his account, the Italian students describe the Poles as being well-versed in foreign languages, hospitable and always ready to cooperate. (PAP)
